3g iPhones cracking?

Reports are widespread in the Apple community that some 3g iPhones are cracking. 1st gen iPhones are unaffected since they use metal rear casing. The problem is mainly with the white models, although it may just be because they are harder to see in the Black versions. Apple are no doubt watching the long threads appearing on the Apple support pages. Allegedly some postings are also mysteriously disappearing. The problem may be due to several factors. Heat/poor plastic/under engineering/pressure. Around the headphone socket where the casing is extremely narrow is particularly susceptible. The cracks themselves are extremely fine, but in my view are still totally unacceptable. Lets hope this is not a widespread problem.
